More shows are coming back – don’t abandon your teevee yet

Things are still getting back to normal after the writers’ strike. In any normal TV season, February would be the month of sweeps, and then we’d all take a couple of weeks off for reruns. By mid-March we’ll be watching new episodes again, waiting for the May sweeps. Unfortunately, because of the strike, this schedule [...]

Best TV shows of all time

This is a strange time for top-ten lists – usually people do them around the holidays. But here’s yet another list for your pleasure. Britain’s Empire magazine has chosen the 50 best TV shows ever made. Many good, respectable shows listed here, and a few gems completely shunned. We’ll post links to similar lists shortly. [...]

30 years ago – Shatner Rocketman

Can you believe it’s been so long? 30 years ago William Shatner was the coolest cat around. He can still show us a glimpse of that brilliance on Boston Legal. Enjoy this little trip back in time.

Golden Globes 2007 nominations and winners

Too bad about the non-existent ceremony, or the ‘news-conference’ as NBC called it. The awards were embarrassingly lame, self-absorbed, and prophetic – that’s the glimpse of things to come. In a year or two this will be news, this will be the headlines. In any case, if you remove the presentation, the winners are actually [...]

Big Shots (ABC, Thursdays)

Oh, what hopes have been dashed by this flimsy ‘Desperate Housewives’ rip-off. Oh, how I’ve waited to see Christopher Titus back on television. You remember him, from the short-lived (ok, 3 seasons is not that short) sitcom Titus – about a hilariously dysfunctional family. You probably remember all the male leads from all kinds of [...]

Chuck (NBC, Mondays)

Now that the show has premiered, and the insane media spin is slowly fading out, let’s talk about it. Frankly. It’s bad enough this show reminds me of just how wonderful Alias was, and how quickly it was sabotaged by its own creators and network (thanks, ABC and JJ Abrams), Chuck also shows how easily [...]

Juno (2007)

Jason Reitman has another unusual hit on his hands with ‘Juno’. Why unusual? Because his last film, ‘Thank You For Smoking’ was a hilarious, biting satire about the tobacco business. And it’s not an easy task to be satirical and likable about such a topic. Jason got plenty of flak from people who thought he [...]

CBS fall 2007 premieres

CBS is still the king of ratings, but they’ve always struggled with younger crowds. Who can blame them – when your most popular shows are CSI franchise, Criminal Minds and 60 minutes, who do you think is going to tune in? So this year, they’re bringing out teen programming. I hope it’s better than it [...]

NBC fall 2007 premieres

NBC, being the last network in ratings for two seasons straight, is beginning to catch on. No, they’re not necessarily putting on better shows (only time will show that, as we found out with demise of Studio 60), they’re simply announcing their sked sooner, in order to create some buzz. At this point, positive or [...]

FOX fall 2007 premieres

Year after year, FOX has been ahead of the network pack in announcing their schedules, bringing new ideas to television (American Idol is still a HUGE draw, despite multiple imitations), and just thinking ahead. So it’s no surprise that FOX is the first of the networks announcing the fall schedule. I guess the fact that [...]
