Karen Sisco axed

We were afraid it will come to this. ABC’s best new show of 2003-2004 season has been axed.

If you are a fan of films like ‘Out of Sight’, ‘Get Shorty’, and the new ‘Big Bounce’, you would understand our anger and disappointment. Based on Elmore Leonard’s character (played quite impressively by Jennifer Lopez), this show featured a great cast, quirky guest stars, and a wonderful dialogue. It was like ‘Alias’ only lighter, funnier, more down-to-earth. No high-kicks, but very sharp observations about the law and the criminal world.

These days good, smart shows do not survive in the world of T&A, and this show, launched to compete with ‘Law & Order’ was put on hold in November 2003. We were all hoping that the producers will find a better time-slot for this gem, but sadly, they preferred to scrap it.
Karen Sisco joins the ranks of ‘The Job’, ‘Action’, ‘Thieves’ and other recent shows that were one-of-a-kind entertainment, but didn’t find enough audience, and didn’t get enough support from the network. If you remember any of these shows, let us know on the forum.

Let’s hope the next season will bring in good shows that will get the attention they deserve. And let’s hope Leonard’s wacky characters and wonderful dialogue keep appearing on the small and the big screens for years to come. Oh yes, and if it all comes down to the dollars spent developing a show, perhaps investing more in attracting viewers, instead of pre-hype would be a better idea?..
