Daily Show with Jon Steward on CTV
Canadian late-night TV lineup has just gotten better. No more trying to pick between the low-brow comedy dressed up in flash, here comes Daily Show with Jon Stewart, consistently funny, and always on a low budget.
This is a big week for Canadian TV history. Or, maybe I’m a little overly excited. Mike Bullard (a.k.a. “the baboon”) has jumped the networks, and in its place, CTV has put the hilarious Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Many of you probably have seen this show on Comedy Network, or on Comedy Central, but since these channels are on cable/satellite, they get very little audience. Now it’s time to expand to new markets.
Now the show is going to get a few more eyeballs. Not to say that CTV is a big network (CityTV is everywhere), but still, it’s an improvement over the squinty-eyed, glistening, fat idiot that picked on his own audience night after night. Good riddance to Mike, and here’s hoping that CTV’s audience will get younger, and maybe in a long run, their programming will get younger as well. So much money, and so much talent, why keep putting on shows for elderly? Nevermind, that’s another story.
I wonder if the writers of the “Daily Show” will start being kinder to Canada, in order to appease the audiences. That would be low. They got famous for satirizing everything and everyone, and if they try to get ratings in Canada by doing “positive” sketches, that would be … well, just don’t do it.
In any case, I’m glad the show is more available for us, up here. In my opinion, it’s the best thing on TV after 11pm. Letterman and Leno finally got some competition, at least in Canada.
Keep up the sharp writing, and welcome to Canada, boys.
