The people have spoken.
The People's Choice awards aired yesterday. I do not agree with all the choices made, but it was entertaining and, after all, I got nothing to complain about as I am not the show's target demographic. See for yourself if these are your favorites: read more...

People's Choice Awards Nominations
Well the award shows are beginning to steam-clean that oh-so-popular red carpet. People's Choice Awards have released their list of nominees (see below). It's cheesy, and it doesn't really reflect what I would pick. But, hey, that's what the people want! I can just hear the speeches now: "first of all, I'd like to thank the people, because it's all for you". Get your popcorn ready, my bets are on CBS comedies and ABC dramas - for mass appeal and audiences from all over the galaxy. read more...

RIP John Spencer (1946-2005)
It's a little late, I know, but hoestly, when I first heard about this on Saturday morning, I thought it was an elaborate joke. Perhaps The West Wing writers are trying to get some publicity for the show, or maybe some joker announced it on the radio somewhere, and the story spread out of control. No, unfortunately, it was not a joke - John Spencer has died last Friday from heart attack. You know him as Leo McGarry from the West Wing. Others may know him from Presumed Innocent, Ravenous, Cop Land, The Rock, Green Card, Black Rain, Sea of Love and many many other films. He's the leutenant, the cop, the investigator - serene and quiet, but all coiled up inside. With John, it was all in the eyes. read more...

September 2005 DVD releases
A little bit late this month - been busy with Toronto Film Fest. Here's a list of early September releases - for those who love good films and TV shows. Our highest recommendation is for "Lost - season 1". A great show, tons of extras on the DVD, and if you missed it last season, get it now to jump right into the story. Stay tuned for the second half of the month - the studios are getting generous and keep releasing their best archives to mere mortals like us. read more...

August 2005 DVD releases
The movie theaters are in a slump, and the stores are returning DVDs by truckloads. And yet, there's so much to see - movies, documentaries, DVD sets of old TV shows, collectors' editions. For the discerning film fan or TV worm, here's a small list of recommendations for this month. In our humble opinion, it contains a few suggestions how to better spend your hard-earned money. Build a collection of movies/shows you can enjoy for a long time, rather than picking up something the TV ads are telling you to get. Our highest recommendation is for The Muppet Show - complete first season on DVD. Regardless of your age, go get it now. Or, read the full August DVD release list below. read more...

James Doohan (Star Trek's Scotty) has passed away.
Rest in peace, Scotty. We have grown up with you at the control panel as Ster Trek's most memorable engineer. You may have been typecast after the three-year long run with the original series, but boy, what a character you created. When the ST universe came back in late 70s in a series of movies, and throughout the 80s and 90s (including the guest-star appearance in "Relics", an episode of The Next Generation) you have been the highlight of any plot, and stole every scene with your burly tone and Scottish accent. Thanks for every line of dialogue, and may your journeys continue beyond this world. read more...
